Ever stay in Yellowstone at Roosevelt Lodge?

Especially interested to hear about the Roughrider cabins. How far at the cabins away from the community shower/restrooms? Is there only one community shower/restroom?

Also, what is the wildlife viewing like in that area? What is your guess at the odds of seeing a black or grizzly bear in mid-June?

Any activities you'd recommend?

I can't help you with any information about the cabins, but I can help you with the wildlife viewing and activities in the park.

To answer your specific question about seeing a grizzly in June...I'd say you have a pretty good shot. They are a big attraction in the summer months. Head toward the Fishing Bridge at Yellowstone Lake. The bears fish for trout thru the end of June and it is truely something to see. If you aren't having any luck, check with the rangers for sure. They can always tell you about recent bear activity and if you do any hiking it is a good idea to check with a ranger about bear activity before you head out. There are plenty or warnings posted about bears, so pay attention to them.

I enjoy the wildlife most. Elk, bison, deer and usually coyotes are easy to spot almost anywhere in the park. Lamar and Hayden Valleys are popular spots for wolves and grizzlies. Bring binoculars, you'll be glad you did. Also try the Mt. Washburn area for bears. You may see bighorn sheep near there as well. Also bighorn sheep and prong horn are typically found between Hot Mammoth Springs and the North Entrance (Gardiner, MT.) I've never spotted a moose in Yellowstone, but have been told the Pebble Creek area is a good place to look. After asking the locals, I took their recommendations and checked out the Tetons and saw moose everyday. Very impressive animals! There are all sorts of birds in the park - eagles, osprey, swans, ducks, etc. If you are trying to spot a specific animal, check with the rangers at the entrances and throughout the park...they can usually send you in the right direction. Always watch for groups of people. If there are people gathering, there is something to see.

Other good activities...of course you should see Old Faithful. Who could visit the park without seeing it? It spouts off about every 90 minutes give or take a few. Check at the Old Faithful gift shop or hotel for the next erruption time. There are all sorts of thermal features to see in that area while you wait.

I like Norris Geyser Basin the best as far as the geysers go. Lots of thermal features, geysers and beautiful pools to see. Be sure to stay on the boardwalks and designated trails though. You can also check out the Upper and Lower Geyser Basins. Along the same lines, check out Atrist Paintpots.

Another good stop is Hot Mammoth Springs. The terraces are impressive to see and there are nice boardwalks to follow. There is a resident heard of elk there too that you will see in the yards of homes and in the picnic areas. Visit the map room in the hotel there. It has a US map made of 15 different kinds of wood. You can learn a lot about the history of the park at the visitor's center in Hot Mammoth Springs as well.

Check at the ranger stations and hotels in the park for information about ranger led hikes, programs and evening talks. They are offered for a wide variety of topics and activities throughout the park from animals to photography and hiking.

You can take in views of the Grand Tetons if you head south toward Yellowstone Lake and there are water activites there.

There are tons of hiking trails and you can find one just about anywhere along the roads in the park ranging for a short 1/2 mile boardwalk to a 20 mile hike.

Other great scenery includes the high mountain passes such as Sylivan Pass and Craig Pass. The wild flowers are beautiful in July and August, so you may get in on the early bloomers. The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is awesome to see and makes for great pictures at sunset. The Upper and Lower falls are pretty too, with a variety of hikes to view them. There are plenty or smaller falls in the park too.

The best tool I have for more info about the park is a book called Yellowstone Treasures by Janet Chappel. It is a road log telling you mile by mile the different things to see and do in the park. It also provides all sorts of tips to help you with your visit. Be sure to read any information you are given at the park entrance. You will receive an copy of the newspaper, Yellowstone Today, it is full of good information.

Your camera will get a workout so come prepared. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. It is well worth it.

Greenville is a city that is located in Washington County in the state of Mississippi. Greenville is the largest city in northern Mississippi. The population in Greenville is around forty thousand, which makes it more plausible that there are famous or notable people living in this city.

This city was named after an American Revolutionary War hero by the name of Nathaniel Greene. Greenville sits on the eastern bank of Lake Ferguson, which is a lake left from an old channel of the Mississippi River. If you visit this part of Greenville, you will find a floating casino near downtown.

North of Greenville, you will find the Winterville Mounds Historic Site. This site includes a museum and a picnic area. There are also Indian burial mounds located in this area.

Greenville was the home to some very notable people and also the birthplace to some of those notable people. Jim Henson, the famous puppeteer was born in Greenville. His works are still delighting children today. It was also the birthplace of Mary Wilson, who was a singer for The Supremes.

Shelby Foote, a famous author, was also born here. Pro baseball player, Frank White was born in Greenville. Also born in Greenville: archaeologist Theresa Helbach, Chinese American journalist Sam Chu Lin and World War II Medal of Honor recipient Robert T. Henry. As you can see, a colorful array of people have originated from this city. Greenville is also the hometown of the Percy family.

Le Roy Percy is a United States Senator and William Alexander Percy was an author that took charge of the flood recovery in Mississippi in 1927. William Alexander Percy wrote an autobiography on the Mississippi Delta that was far more informative than any other was. Walker Percy, another author, wrote a novel entitled "Love Among the Ruins." An African American bear hunter by the name of Holt Collier is buried in Greenville. Holt Collier was a guide for President T. Roosevelt on a bear hunt at one point in time.

Betty Jo Crisler, also from Greenville, became one of the first women Methodist ministers in the plains of Texas. Leon Whittaker was an African American trombonist that lived in Greenville in the early days of his career. Jerry Rice, who is a famous athlete, resides in Greenville now.

As you can see, Greenville has been very prosperous with famous and notable individuals. Throughout Greenville's history there have been notable figures born and raised there. There were also several notable people that lived some of their days out in this city.
