My kitten has little brown build up in her ears?
My kitten has a lot of brown stuff in her ears and she's constantly scratching at the her ears. and i think it might be ear mites but how can i be sure it is ear mites? and because she's constantly scratching her ears the inside has become really pink I think its because of the constant scratching? any help please?
A kitten with brown stuff in her ears is most likely ear mites, as ear mites and worms almost always come with kittens.
When she scratches, if her other back foot does a thumping action, she is in real pain.
But regardless, she needs to see a vet for a thorough ear cleaning (don't worry, bilateral ear cleaning is really inexpensive) and then an examination of the brown stuff to see if there are mites present, and also checking if there is any infection from all the scratching. Your mentioning pink color suggests an infection.
If mites, insist that the vet treat with a miticide that is effective with one dose. You really don't want to deal with giving ear drops, as that can make your cat hostile towards you.
However, if the brown stuff is the result of an allergy, it could be a result of untreated ear mites when she was a tiny kitten. If that is the case, you will have to pay attention to her ears, and schedule cleanings when her ears bother her. Often that can be done by a vet tech, or they can show you how to clean her ears.
