Does taking a collector Barbie out of the box devalue it?

I got a "gold label" collector Barbie doll for Chirstmas. I would like to put her on display but her box isn't like a typical display box. She comes with a small plastic stand. But I was curious if taking her out of her box devalues her any?

It normally doesnt devalue Collector dolls Especialy Gold Label dolls whitch are produced in quantities of no more than 25,000 pieces worldwide. They are worth money in or out of box, if you think you would get more enjoyment out of the doll if it is out of box then in, go for it. Gold label dolls are rare once they go out of production and mostly go up in value anyways. If you are looking to sell her within the next couple of years, it may be best to keep her in box. I collect not for value, but because I like Barbie and her beautifull huge wardrobe of clothes, besides it's mostly playline (dolls for play) that devalue when deboxed.

If you do decide to open her, store the box in a safe place where it won't get crushed or damaged, also keep everything she comes with; with her. If you lose any of it, it will most likely devalue her.

Following the Silver is the Gold Label collectible dolls. Gold Label dolls are produced in quantities of no more than 25,000 of each doll. The packaging is different from the previous tiers. Silver Label dolls come in a “cake box” type package with an extra see through layer to protect the doll. The box has artwork and photography on the back and lid with gold decorative trimming. Included under the Gold Label are ‘Designer Fashion Model’ dolls, ‘Designer Bride’, Vintage Repros’ and ‘Pin-up Girls’ collectible dolls.

The top tier is the Platinum Label dolls. These dolls are produced in editions of less than 1,000, and also include one-of-a-kind-dolls that are available at special events, or are exclusive to one retail store only. An example of a Platinum Label collectible doll is the ‘White Chocolate Obsession™ Barbie® Doll!’ The doll’s hair has the scent of white chocolate. Other dolls include the ‘Faerie Queen’, Badgley Mischka Bride Barbie, and the exclusive ‘The Nurse’ Barbie doll designed by Robert Best.

Collectors avidly collect these tier Label dolls, and are rewarded by the exquisite attention to details in the clothes and accessories of each specially designed Barbie. My grandmother gave me a porcelain barbie some time ago, it was still in the box, though i have bought a glass case that it now sits in(but I kept the box). The card that came with it says this

Your porcelain doll was probably made in the middle 1990s by Enesco. Enesco specializes in porcelain anyway, and they had a line called "From Barbie With Love," which is part of the "Glamour Collection."

All of this being the case, your doll is worth between $25 and $100. You wanted to know how much it would be worth, right?

It's made by Enesco, so it's not Mattel, and the value isn't very high.

That Barbie is worth about $60 to $100. It's odd, because if it wasn't porcelain, it would be worth more -- a lot more. We're talking like $900 - $2,000.

Oh, but here's why: That doll was actually made in 1989. It's a porcelain reproduction of the 1959 Barbie. The Barbies past about '75 aren't worth as much.

Because you've removed her from the box, she will probably be worth less than $100, more in the $70 range. It's good you still have the box, though.
