Help with Antique Bru Reproduction?
Just aquired 8 antique dolls including a vintage Madame Alexander and a very unique, beautiful looking doll with tattered, worn clothing. Upon closer inspection I realized that there was a tag attached to her clothing which read “Circle and Dot reproduction BRU doll, the original can be seen at the Dolls in Wonderland Museum in St. Augustine”. I am not too schooled on antique dolls, but this doll looks rather old, yet is in very good condition in spite of her age.
I wanted to know if anyone is familiar with Circle and Dot Reproduction BRU dolls and the value of them?

Doll collecting is an exciting -- and at times, addictive -- hobby, but it can also be very expensive. Therefore, many doll collectors are also by necessity bargain hunters. Even in doll collecting, good deals can be had if you know how and where to look. Below are some tips and tricks to get you started.
Shop Online
Online markets usually present a mixture of sellers: those who want way too much for their dolls; those who donÂ’t ask enough, either because they donÂ’t know or donÂ’t care what their dolls are worth; and those who have found the happy medium. Online prices are typically lower than those in brick-and-mortar doll stores, so as long as you stay away from the first group of sellers, you are bound to be getting a good deal. However, true bargains can be had when you know how to search online.
Search the wrong categories on eBay. Valuable dolls often get overlooked when sellers list them in the wrong category. If you are looking for a certain kind of doll, make a habit of searching categories where an uninformed seller might think it belongs.
Watch auctions that begin at higher prices. This trick takes advantage of the psychology of the auction system. When a dollÂ’s bid starts at the high end of the bargain range, many buyers will pass it over in favor of auctions that start dirt-cheap. They forget all about the higher-priced dolls, instead setting their hearts on the ones that look like a better deal -- now. At the end of the week, though, the dolls that start low have skyrocketed, whereas the dolls that started high have attracted no attention at all -- allowing you to swoop in at the last minute and snatch them up at (or just above) the starting bid.
Shop Secondhand Stores
Your mother was right -- you can find phenomenal bargains by shopping secondhand. Usually these sellers donÂ’t know or care how much the wares they sell are worth -- the goal is fast turnaround, so items are priced to sell. You may have to invest more time in searching for what you want, but even one spectacular "find" will make it all worthwhile.
Search for garage sales and estate sales. You may be able to pick up dolls for well under their market price at these types of sales. Save time by checking the paper first -- some estate sales will be listed in the newspaper or on Craigslist, and these ads usually give a quick rundown on what the estate sale has to offer.
Frequent thrift stores. Most thrift stores will price all dolls the same, whether they are modern Barbie dolls or vintage Madame Alexander. Secondhand stores just donÂ’t have the time or resources to hire experts, and as a result you can find real treasures for at unbelievable prices at these stores. DonÂ’t get too involved in the dealer politics, though -- it will be very easy to get swept up in the competition between others who frequent the stores, looking for bargains.
Collecting dolls doesnÂ’t have to leave you broke all the time. The more you collect, the better sense you develop for the market: what constitutes a good price, and what is an all-out bargain. The more you learn about dolls, the more comfortable you will be with bargain-hunting, and the more money you will save by bargain-hunting. Whether you put that money to good use or just use your bargains to buy more dolls -- well, that part is up to you.
