Did any Shirley Temple dolls come in a wooden display box in the 30's or 40's?
It could have been bought special as a store display. They did not come off the shelves in wooden display boxes. They did have store displays done this way for advertising purposes. This actually raises the value as an advertising item as well as a Shirley. There are many valuation books you can find that will explain this.
Ahh, the joy of parenthood! Parents, when they first learn they are expecting, are nervous about the incoming addition to their family. Yet, the closer and closer the birth comes, parents start going baby crazy buying all kinds of things, including clothing.
No doubt when a parent is shopping for their little expecting newborn, they shop like it is art. Get this... I like this... look at the color of this blue or pink... Wow, isn't that gorgeous. 1. The Sailor -
Dressing up your little boy as a sailor is a common thing to do. Lots of people love the water, sailors and boats. For nearly 100 years, baby boys have been dressed up in Navy-like suits. So cute!
When the boys grow into men and somehow they find pictures of themselves in those Navy outfits. Should the baby been able to speak, one of the many things he may say is... "Batten down the hatches and swab the poopdeck, matey."
2. The Baseball Player -
Should every father picture their little boy standing on the mound in the middle of the diamond? Why not? All they can think of is their little boy, pitching a three strike, "you are out!" game and them winning the game! No wonder baby baseball boy clothes are so popular. No doubt the baseball outfits are more common than the sailor suits.
Baseball is such an American game that it is no surprise. Suits can be found in many retail stores including Target, K-mart and even Wal-mart.
So when you get an outfit such as this... go ahead and dream your son is pitching the World Series. Go ahead and picture him getting a home run. It is okay to be a little neurotic about your child. He is yours after all.
3. Little Princes -
Daddy's little girl, Mommy's little princess. When parents have a little girl, they go all the way in buying pink dresses and dress the room in pink. Dressing up your little girl is a form of dress up for yourself.
Typically, the princess outfit is a traditional items such as frilly dresses, white tights and little patent leather shoes. Yes, the cute little Shirley Temple look.
Most mothers dream of dressing their little girls up like a debutante of the 1800s and the 1900s. Even going so far as doing the prom queen look 18 years early. Another thing, most mothers love putting their princess' in beauty pageants. Why this is...is different for many mothers but mainly to show off how cute their little pumpkin really is.
The thing parents need to remember is that clothes do not make the child but the child will make the clothes. Every child is born beautiful or gorgeous... just remember that all babies may be so; but your baby is the most beautiful of all.
