Can a woman tell from the scent of a man the character of the man? Can she tell the kind of "person" he is?

I was married for several years and my wife used to say that my body order was pleasant because she said that is how a man was suppose to smell. I used to think that she was just being nice about it. I am in the Middle East running a construction company with two partners; one Asian and one European. I am the American. I live with one of my partners and during breakfast, we were talking about body odor. Granted, I don't care how a certain level of order may be pleasant to others such as to women. Too much of it is to me,, too much. He told me that his wife before he left home to come to the Middle East to work, and he is gone for months at a time, that his wife would not wash a couple of his clothes because the odor reminds it of him. Given that we get used to our own smell,, it to us does not smell like anything. I don't wear after shave, or any other chemical to enhance my body smell other than the soap, shampoo & antiperspirant. I have had no complaints. What are your thoughts?

From my perspective, you are confusing a man's scent with his character. Each of us exudes certain pheromones, and rarely can we pick up our own. A woman can be attracted to the scent of a man who has little character (I call this the animal lust part of attraction - not in a negative way). Your partner's wife is not alone in keeping a worn shirt (or other item of his clothing) as a reminder while he's gone. She very likely wears his shirts and has the ability to almost imagine he is still present.

Character on the other hand is totally different. Have you known women who were attracted to men who were absolute jerks (and I mean from more than just the 'bad boy' perspective)? I've always felt that there was something about the scent of those males that the woman found attractive, even if his personality didn't match the attraction of his scent.

I think women are more aware of the scent of a male than the reverse. Not that we males don't find natural scents of some women attractive, we just don't recognize that trait in ourselves. If you are ever around a woman to whom you find yourself very attracted and you can't put your finger on the reason why you find her attractive, my money is on the pheromones she is exuding.

I've always found the natural scent of my partners to be something positive (presuming she maintains a decent level of personal hygiene). Your ex's comment about you being pleasant to her was the combination of your pheromones and her receptors. Another woman might have found your scent unappealing, and perhaps not even realized it.

Like you, I'm way more prone to natural hygiene, with regular showers, soap and shampoo and antiperspirant, but not the other 'fru-fru' stuff so many males think is cool.
