Love Lucy Lucille
How did Lucille Ball help to change the role of the American woman?
I know Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy, but she played a role to change the role of American women. What was it?
She was like one of the first women to be pregnant on tv. She was the president of her company. She did a lot of things actually. She was on The Lucy Show. The Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour (or something like that).

Watch These Shows With Your Satellite Tv
If you asked ten different people what the greatest TV show of all time was, chances are you would get ten different answers. Who, for example, would possibly agree with TIME Magazine’s inclusion of Gilmore Girls in their list of the 100 greatest shows?? While there is certainly room for debate, each of the following five shows has at least a claim to being the greatest TV show of all time. Now, in no particular order, the nominees:
1.   I Love Lucy: although this show has been off the air for decades, it lives on in syndication largely because its comedy is timeless. Lucille Ball was truly one of the greatest comedians in television history. Who could ever forget Lucy at the candy factory?
2.   The Three Stooges: much like I Love Lucy, this show has stood the test of time and sets the standard for comedy. It is perhaps the very definition of physical comedy. Whether you are watching remastered high definition DVDs of the show or the original grainy black and white, you cannot help but laugh at the antics of Larry, Moe and Curly. Â
3.   The Simpsons: now in its twentieth season and still going strong, this show is the defining face of America. Homer is the consummate fat, lazy stupid, balding American male, and yet he has managed to do incredible things, from being an astronaut, to a sports star, to the voice of a cartoon character in a case of art imitating life. Anyone who is anyone has had a cameo on the show- former Presidents, rock stars, sports stars, actors of all stripes, even Michael Jackson.
4.   The Sopranos: although the incredibly long hiatuses in between seasons were a cause of much ire, few series have been as beautifully crafted as this one. Despite the fact that the show was on HBO and thus could only be seen by people with premium cable or satellite TV, it maintained a huge viewership and took full advantage of the creative freedom offered by HBO to show the mafia in all its bloody glory. Like Homer, Tony Soprano is one of the most iconic characters in history. Â
5.   Sesame Street: like The Simpsons, this is much more than a children’s show. Generations of children have grown up watching Sesame Street and have learned how to count with The Count and read with Big Bird. Every day this show teaches life lessons such as the importance of sharing, accepting people who are different, and loving education. Despite targeting a very young audience, the show has not been afraid to tackle serious issues, either. For example, the Sesame Street shown in South Africa includes an HIV positive character.
Honorable Mention: Mad Men: because the show is only in its third season it has not yet proven itself sufficiently in order to merit making the list. However, the show is off to a brilliant start and if it can maintain the level of quality it has so far demonstrated, it will certainly be on future lists.
