Anyone know about old Teddy Bears?
When I lived in Germany in 1964, I visited a "Dolls/Teddy Bear hospital where my dad bought me a bear from the shop inside.. He was a little worn. He is about 20 inches high and stuffed with what looks like wood shavings. He has wooden discs at each of his joints (shoulders and hips) he has a growler that still works! He has glass eyes and a stitched nose and no labels. All I know is that he "accompanyed" a Doll that came in to be repaired and both were never collected. And ok...his name is Horace!
I would really like to know his "ancestory" Anyone know of someone that can identify him? I have photos I can e-mail.
Thanks!
It may possibly be a 'steiff' bear (sorry but spelling might not be exact sorry). But most steiff bears were made during the war and had a red button of some sort on one of their ears.
If there's one design element that makes a little girl feel most like a princess, it's a canopy over her bed. Kids canopy beds evoke romantic storybook images of a life lived happily ever after.
Canopy Beds Have a Royal Heritage
Canopy beds are rightly associated with princesses and other royalty, as canopy beds have their origins in ancient castles as a means of dealing with the unwieldy drafts these palaces produced. In the wintertime beds in the castle were draped with heavy curtains in order to help contain warmth. During the summer months, the thick fabric material was replaced by thin netting used to keep mosquitoes and other insects and pests out.
Both protective, comfort-generating uses for canopies in those medieval times were luxuries that only the elite could afford. That tradition of draping canopies over beds was then carried on from there into modern mansions and estates where people sought to live in perceived luxury, whether they required the extra draft protection, warmth, or pest prevention, or not.
Kids Canopy Beds Give Little Girls Good Feelings
Girls canopy beds are not only a symbol of luxury and wealth but, to the little girls that sleep in them, they're also a symbol of beauty, elegance, and grace. When a little girl wakes up beneath a canopy she may imagine herself a princess in her palace, or an angel in her own private heaven, or a fairy or sprite in an enchanted forest. Whatever she imagines, one thing is for sure - she feels as beautiful inside as her surroundings are outside.
More than that, even, girls canopy beds provide a subtle sense of protection, of safety and security in her bedroom. The simple veil a canopy provides gives little girls enough of a feeling of privacy that they can comfortable allow themselves to relax enough to fall asleep.
Kinds of Girls Canopy Beds
Most custom theme beds can be designed with a canopy included. Princess castle beds certainly can, but so can Tudor cottage theme beds, Victorian theme beds, horse and carriage or horse and buggy theme beds, and more. What's more, canopies can be built into kids bunk beds, kids loft beds, and kids Murphy beds alike.
Girls canopy beds can be built in a four-poster style or with an open-toed half-canopy. You can have them built made of fabric or wood or wrought iron. And you can have them made or painted in any color or design that you and your little girl like.
Joann Means has spent years designing custom theme beds for little girls with and without canopies. Tudor style cottage beds, Versailles palace beds, princess castle beds, and Victorian doll house beds are only some of the custom girls beds Joann has designed. Take a look at some of the girls canopy beds and other custom theme beds she's designed at Sweet Dream Children's Interiors (http://www.sweetdreambed.com).
After perusing the girls beds in the galleries at Sweet Dream Children's Interiors (http://www.sweetdreambed.com), sit down with Joann and come up with a design for your little girls theme bed that is as special and unique as your little girl herself. From there, Joann's husband, master carpenter Johnny Means, will take those designs and build your little girl a custom theme bed that's worthy of making her feel safe, special, and beautiful.
