Press a special occasion or evening dress?

I am a bridesmaid for a wedding in three weeks. The dress is great, but in the area around the hem are wrinkles from the way I stored it. Can I just buy a fabric steamer to get it out? Or will that ruin the dress? It is just high quality polyester. I think it is more valuable to just buy a steamer than spend the money at a dry cleaners.

If you have an iron that steams, you can put water into it and use the steam from the iron to get out those wrinkles. Just hang the dress, pull the material taut, and hit the steam button on the iron...the wrinkles come right out! My iron (which is pretty high quality) actually works better than my steamer !

If you want to look stylish in plus size evening wear, you need to know a secret. Your dress will look great if it fits your body shape.

So first, you've got to define your body shape before you pick your plus size evening dress. If you have broad hips and a relatively narrow torso and shoulders, then you are definitely pear shaped. Thus, put on dresses that show off your best part and hide your heavier bottom.

Don't go with short flair or layered skirts, but instead hide your lower body with a long length dress, at least longer than knee length. A-line cuts are best, as they slope gradually downwards. For the top, drop shoulder cuts are good so that the width of your shoulders look broader. This will help to balance things out between top and bottom. If you are wearing a two-piece, you can have the darker colored piece for your skirt. This will help to draw attention to your top instead.

On the flip side, women with large busts, broad shoulders and relatively narrow hips are classified as apple shaped. The plus size evening wear suited for this category would be V-neck lines and A-line skirts. You may try out long flair skirts to even out the balance between upper and lower body. Avoid tops such as off shoulder cuts that make your shoulders look even broader.

Whatever you choose, always get a plus size evening wear that is your size. Don't pick something oversized or you'll end up looking even larger than you actually are. Also, put no a thick belt to emphasize your waistline especially when you aren't that curvy.

Finally, accessories will help put on that finishing touch in looking elegant in plus size evening wear. Match earrings to your face shape, and necklaces to complement your dress. Think creatively, experiment and you'll get it right in no time!
