Why is American Girl retiring Samantha?
I have been collecting American Girl dolls for the past ten years. They've been a huge part of my childhood and even though I am older now I truly believe that they are timeless. I have Felicity, Josephina, Kirsten, Samantha, Kit and Molly. They are all special to me however Samantha has always been my favorite. Why are they retiring her? out of all of the other dolls? hasn't she always been everyone's favorite? i just thought it was sort of bizarre. i know that they are replacing her with another doll of a similar time period (a russian immigrant, i believe) but I was just kind of surprised and upset to see her taken away since she was the first doll created in 1986, and has been one of the most, if not the most popular in the collection. agree? disagree?

that is sooo sad! Samantha was my first American girl doll, and even though I am 18 and no longer play with my American girl dolls, I think they are all timeless collectibles that really remind me of my early childhood. And I have to agree with you...she is probably the most popular doll and she was definitely my favorite.
