How do I wash my dark wash denim jeans?

These jeans aren't really expensive, from American Eagle but I would like to keep the dark wash as long as I can. I would just not wash them for a long time like your supposed to but the color is bleeding onto my hands and goodness knows what else.

The girl as the store said I should wash them inside out and by themselves, but what settings should I set on the washer?

Wash them in cold water, and on a gentle settings. If you have the patience, you could air dry them on a rack. If not, you could still just throw them in the dryer, they might shrink a little.
